Vatican: The Pope receives the MCL

The Movimento Cristiano Lavoratori (MCL) has celebrated its 50th anniversary since its founding in 1973. The MCL is a founding and very active member of the IPCM.

For this reason, its members have been received by Pope Francis in the Paul VI Hall, in the Vatican, on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The general president of the MCL, Antonio Di Matteo, addressed a few words, on behalf of the entire organization. The president of the General Council of the MCL, Piergiorgio Sciacqua, who is vice president of the IPCM, also attended.

Pope Francis said in his speech:

“Fifty years ago, your Movement took its first steps under the blessing of Pope Saint Paul VI; and today you have come to share this moment of gratitude with me. Thank you for the good you have sown in these years of life. Thank you for the commitment with which you have placed yourselves at the service of Italian society through formation activities, circles, your patronage, your attention to the world of work in its various facets, and your civil service.

I know you refer to the social doctrine of the Church: I urge you to continue to do so and, if possible, even more. The principles of solidarity and subsidiarity, correctly conjugated, are the basis of a society that includes, that rejects no-one, and fosters participation”.
